March 31, 2026 Still Going

It’s been over six months since my last update. I’ve sold lots of items, and I’ve bought lots of items. I’ve sold a stock I did not like what was going on with it. I’ll explain this more later.

I’ve sold 138 items since my last update and have made $630.69 in profit off of these items. I made an average of $4.57 per item. This is a much lower average than I’ve been making previously. I know this has been the trend of lower item sales price over this period. I’ve taken steps to increase my profitability level to $15 on average. I had decided to keep a higher level of profit per item previously, but the easy path to acquire many items in a hour or less calls out to me sometimes.

It will take time for the average profit to come back up because I have also increased my overall inventory level. I had a big loss on a bike I bought for $126.65 and lost $66.65 on it when I sold it for $60. I learned I did not know enough about the bike when I bought it. The research I did lead me to believe I could have sold it for over $400. I learned more about Fuji Roubiax bikes, and would not make the same mistake around the year the bike was built again. I’ll take more larger shots as I go to increase the average profit per item. I’ll certainly make mistakes by not understanding items I buy again. I enjoy trying to find out the larger items.

Lower priced items are very easy to find to make an average of $5 per item. This is not a great way to spend a lot of time though with the amount of capital I have in changejarflip. It also makes flipping a situation where I have to continue to learn more about items. The other way I am focusing is by making sure to scout the items I’m buying more with the sales price I want to correlate to the higher profit point.

I sold the gold pendant I bought and lost $49 on it. I made a mistake because this is a gamble more on the price of gold going up instead of a solid flip when I bought.

Current Inventory

I have 454 items and a total cost for these items of $2739.16. Lots of clothing and four items over $120 each. The large items are a lawnmower, guitar, mixer, and computer. Total for the four largest items is $677.00. 420 items under $10.00.

Stock Buys and Sales

I bought five more shares of Verizon on 12/16/25. I continued to reinvest dividends.

I sold all of my shares of REFI, Chicago Atlantic Real Estate Finance. The reason I sold was the company has continued to issue more shares. This is putting downward pressure on the earnings per share and I believe will lead to a reduction in the dividend amount per quarter. I do not see a way they are going to increase the amount of earning per share that equates to the number of shares they are issuing. There would need to be a revenue increase in line with these shares to be issued.

I had spent $1,117.01 on this and lost $52.71. I would have continued to hold this if they were not increasing the share size.

I have $221.43 in dividends a year right now.

I’m not going to update the sales and purchases table this update.

October 6, 2025- Bigger swings

I’ve made $446.25 in profit since my last update in August. I sold 43 items during this period with one very large winner. I sold a Nikon D7200 and made $234.07 on $216 invested into it. I am focusing on buying more expensive items and maintain the other inventory levels I’ve establshed with clothing and cheaper items.

Mini Challenge to Myself

I am buying ten items around $20 and want to see how many times I can double them in one year. I’ve currently bought five items in this challenge. I’ve got two handheld power tools, one zoom telephoto lens, a Psycho Bunny hat, and a Korg Controller. I need to pick up five more items around the $20 amount. One year from now I’ll report how much I put in and what it turned into. I hope to be able to flip each item every quarter.

Current Inventory

In the adventure of this I have bought some higher priced items to try to make larger amounts of profit. I bought a bass guitar, another camera, Pioneer DJ Mixer, and South Africa Kruggerrand pendant. I may lose money on some or all of these, but let the learning begin. I’ve got just under a $1,000 in these items, with the gold pendant being the majority of it.

I got amounts I can sell the bass and pendant for already, but would lose money if I sell to my outs at this point. Going to try and sell in other ways first. I would lose $55 on the bass with my guaranteed buyer, and $148 on the gold pendant with my out.

I’ve got 442 items in total. I am almost fully invested right now with $6.36 to get there.

I bought 20 shares of REFI and four more shares of Verizon. I have 1.86 shares more from Future Fuel as a reinvested dividend. I’m at $288.65 a year in dividends currently. The value of stocks was over $3100 last time I looked them all up with price.

Going through my inventory I missed a book I sold in August. I paid $3.24 for the book, sold it for $50, and made $35.58 in profit on it.

August 26, 2025- Over $5,000 made

I passed $5,000 made since I started changejarflip last month. This is a big milestone I feel like considering the small amount of $36.38 I started with, and is 137 times more than I started with. A little bit of effort has turned into an amount which leads to a very reasonable amount of profit a month on average.

As of today, I am sitting on $5,134.05 of profit, and $5,170.43 in inventory. I have an inventory of 456 items. I am getting to the point my inventory is getting as big as I want it to be. I’ll likely grow it to around 500 and start focusing on larger profit items again. As well, I might just let things run as they are, or go down in inventory. I go between wanting to keep pushing up to a much higher level and not wanting to do much for a while. Over the many years of flipping items I’ve learned if I’m starting feel this way it is best to let my flipping inventory just sell items in it, and enjoy the profit to come off of the previous work I’ve done before.

Yeti T-shirt

Since my last update in June 2025 I’ve sold 67 items and made a profit of $493.86. The average profit was $7.37 per item. This is lower than I’ve been at before, and likely because of the big increase in inventory over time, and not focusing on higher profit items. In addition I’ve purchased 400 storage packages which cost $80.36 for the clothes I’ve been selling which is lowering the average.

I’ve bought a lot of stocks as well since the last update.

June 6, 2025- End of Year Three Update

I have finished up year three of change jar flip, and exceeded in more than doubling where I was at the end of year two.

Summary of Year Three

Initial Starting Amount Year Three: $1,931.59

Number of Items Sold Year Three: 275, 3.3 times the number last year

Largest Profit Made on One Item in Year Three: $152.00

Smallest Profit or Biggest Loss on One Item in Year Three: $-51.49, disposed of a higher priced tool I couldn’t fix

Number of Items Sold I Made Money On: 242

Number of Items Sold I Lost Money On: 33, I’ve started selling items that are older to get them out the inventory

Current Total Inventory Possible: $4,654.62- Over 127 times what I started with! At an annual 8% return on my initial amount it would take 60.8 years to reach this level when starting from my initial $36.38.

Total Profit in Year One: $2,723.03 excluding gains and losses on stocks

Current Number of Items in Inventory: 429, I am going to get to 500 and just let this run for a while

Average Profit on Items Sold: $8.81

Approximate Number of Hours Needed: No idea for this year on number of hours. I’ve moved into selling lots of clothing items. These are much faster than the one off items I was doing. It takes me around 5 minutes an item to find, list, and pack when it sales. If I use this number than hours would be 25 hours for those that are sold. If I add in almost 400 more items at 3 minutes for each of these then that would be another 20 hours. Around 45 hours for the year.

Approximate Hourly rate: $60.51 per hour at 45 hours on this.

Overall level of satisfaction with this: 10 out of 10 in Year Three

Summary of All Years

Initial Starting Amount: $36.38

Number of Items Sold Overall: 113

Largest Profit Made on One Item: $279.24

Smallest Profit or Biggest Loss on One Item: $-51.49

Number of Items Sold I Made Money On: 329

Number of Items Sold I Lost Money On: 59- I’ve started purging older items that I paid small amounts for

Current Total Inventory Possible: $4,654.62- Over 127 times what I started with!

Total in inventory as of 6/6/25: $1903.45

Needed to invest to be fully invested; $1090.57, this number is getting large versus the average price of what I am investing in. I will either need to go full bore into reinvesting into large priced items or I will start buying more stocks.

Total Profit Overall: $4,618.24 excluding gains and losses on stocks

Amount in Stocks bought: $1,660.60

Current Value of Stocks: $1836.41, $175.81 in profit were I to sell right now. This total stock value is almost as much as my total possible inventory at the end of year two.

Yearly dividend amount: $150.07, 4.12 times my starting amount

Current Number of Items in Inventory: 429

Average Profit on Items Sold: $14.03, this is going to trend down over time if I keep selling clothing

Approximate Number of Hours Needed: 90

Approximate Hourly rate: $51.33 per hour

Where to Go From Here

I am planning on getting to 500 items and letting the inventory stay around that level for a while. I’ve purchased some larger priced cameras lately which sold in around two months on the longest. These items tend to have a larger profit amount but the margin is not as good as I get on the lower priced items. I’ll likely keep doing some of the larger items because of the excess amount I have to be fully invested.

Last year, I hoped my inventory would double. I was able to 2.4 times where I was in a year. If I double my total inventory amount possible amount again by year four I will be very happy again. A double from here would be pushing me close to $10,000 since I started, which seems pretty awesome to me to have just taken $36.38 I had lying around and be able to turn it into something significant. I’m still a way off, but as long as I stay consistent I will get there. There is a big milestone of $5,000 coming up soon. I’m only a few hundred dollars away from it as I write this update, because I’ve sold more since the end of the third year. I’ll update my blog again when I hit $5,000.

The thing I will be working towards as I get to the 500 inventory level is to start reinvesting the profits every month fully into stocks, and maintain the level of inventory I am at. I’ll keep enough flexibility with cash if I come across a great flip I will buy it. I am aiming for an inventory of 500 to be able to have an average profit of $10 per item sold and to sell the inventory through once a year.

When I do this then I will work to maintain good stock investments and grow the average dividend amount monthly. This time next year I should be making as much a month in dividends as I started with, $36.38.

If you are reading this and looking to make more money, you should know anyone can do what I have done and am doing. It is easy to do if you think some and just stay consistent.

May 13, 2025- Moving on up

I’ve sold plenty of items, 91, since my last update in February. I’ve made $859.15 of profit since that update, which is about $285 a month on average, and averaging $8.94 per item in profit. This is over $3000 a year at this current pace. I passed through $4000 in profit since starting and need less than $500 to pass into $5000. The big moment for me was when I had made a hundred times my initial starting amount. Anyone can take a small amount of money and turn it into a decent amount with some patience and a little bit of thinking when flipping items. I definitely could have did this faster if I wanted, but I’ve enjoyed how it has went.

I am thinking about getting to a plateau and stopping with around 500 items overall online. At that level I could make around $5000 a year. This seems like a good spot for me to be at and just let it run to see how I feel about what has happened. If I get to this spot I’ll just reinvest the profit each month into dividend paying stocks like I’ve been doing with some of the profit along the way. I’ve got 342 items in my inventory currently, and it will take me a while to build up to 500. I’m not setting a date when I want to be to this level. I’ve been focused on clothing overall, but continue to pick up random items which are very profitable.

David Taylor Polo shirt sold 5/13/25

For example, I sold a Canon camera and made $120.83, and sold a Reidel bag and made $67.65 on it. I’ve got a couple of cameras in my stock right now which allowed me to reinvest more dollars into one item than I can on clothes in general. As well, I sold one of antique plates I purchased two years ago and made $51.24 in profit.

I held on to the Coca Cola puzzles too long based on the amount I thought I could make on them. Unfortunately, I mismeasured them and the shipping cost me four times as much as I had planned. On the bright side the other older items I have left are selling and the antique plate made a large profit.

Stocks Bought and Dividends

The only new shares I have bought has been ten more shares of Chicago Atlantic Real Estate on 5/1/25.

I received dividends on all my holdings since my last update and they were reinvested back into more shares.

Current number of shares are:

Verizon 16.624, Altria 1.079, British American Tobacco 9.545, Future Fuel 62.205, Chicago Atlantic Real Estate 17.552.

My current annual dividend amount is $128.91, or 3.5 times the amount I started with. Right on!

A stretch goal for me is to get to making as much in a month in dividends as I start this off with. I have invested $1512.00 of the profit from selling items to get to the $128.91 a year. This is a yield of 8.52% on purchase price. I would need around $5200 invested at my current yield to get $36.38 a month in dividend income.

February 11, 2025- Consistency

I have sold 27 items since my last update on January 3, 2025. I made $210.87 of profit on these items for an average profit of $7.81. I would like to be higher than this, but this amount per average is still very good based on what I’m doing. I would like to have a complete turn of my inventory once a year at this point, and am trending in towards this. This would be optimal based on the amount of time I am willing to put into this. I hope to get up to 300 items if I can keep growing, but I am running into the position where I am not growing my inventory at this point very much and have around the same amount I need to reinvest month to month, about $600.

Buc-ees Black Shirt

I redonated two items for someone else to enjoy: the Japanese Stein and the Satellite Puzzle. They hadn’t moved and there was no one looking at them, so it was time to move one.

Stocks

I bought eight more shares of Verizon during this time period from the profits I’ve been earning. I paid $313.05 for an average cost per share of $39.13125. As well, I received dividends on Verizon, Chicago Atlantic Real Estate, Altria, and British American Tobacco.

I got paid $5.59 from Verizon giving me .141 more shares. I now have 16.375 shares of Verizon.

I got paid $1.03 from Altria giving me .02 more shares. I now have 1.061 shares of Altria.

I got paid $4.55 from Chicago Atlantic Real Estate giving me .301 more shares. I now have 7.301 shares of Chicago Atlantic Real Estate.

I got paid $6.83 from British American Tobacco giving me .164 more shares. I now have 9.545 shares of British American Tobacco.

With the 61.325 shares of Future Fuel my current yearly dividend amount is at $106.83. Was my initial investment of $36.38 a good use of that money? For sure, based on what I’ve been able to grow it into on a yearly basis already. I am almost at three times my initial investment that will be paid to me whether I do anything or not in perpetuity. Crazy how a small amount has already turned into this.

I hope to continue to grow it over the years doing exactly what I’ve been doing so far. Buying items where I can make decent amounts selling them, and buying shares of companies I believe have a good chance to pay me while I hold them over time.
