June 2025 – Change jar flip

I have finished up year three of change jar flip, and exceeded in more than doubling where I was at the end of year two. Summary of Year Three Initial Starting Amount Year Three: $1,931.59 Number of Items Sold Year Three: 275, 3.3 times the number last year Largest Profit Made on One Item in Year Three: $152.00 Smallest Profit or Biggest Loss on One Item in Year Three: $-51.49, disposed of a higher priced tool I couldn't fix Number of Items Sold I Made Money On: 242 Number of Items Sold I Lost Money On: 33, I've started selling items that are older to get them out the inventory Current Total Inventory Possible: $4,654.62- Over 127 times what I started with! At an annual 8% return on my initial amount it would take 60.8 years to reach this level when starting from my initial $36.38. Total Profit in Year One: $2,723.03 excluding gains and losses on stocks Current Number of Items in Inventory: 429, I am going to get to 500 and just let this run for a while Average Profit on Items Sold: $8.81 Approximate Number of Hours Needed: No idea for this year on number of hours. I've moved into selling lots of clothing items. These are much faster than the one off items I was doing. It takes me around 5 minutes an item to find, list, and pack when it sales. If I use this number than hours would be 25 hours for those that are sold. If I add in almost 400 more items at 3 minutes for each of these then that would be another 20 hours. Around 45 hours for the year. Approximate Hourly rate: $60.51 per hour at 45 hours on this. Overall level of satisfaction with this: 10 out of 10 in Year Three Summary of All Years Initial Starting Amount: $36.38 Number of Items Sold Overall: 113 Largest Profit Made on One Item: $279.24 Smallest Profit or Biggest Loss on One Item: $-51.49 Number of Items Sold I Made Money On: 329 Number of Items Sold I Lost Money On: 59- I've started purging older items that I paid small amounts for Current Total Inventory Possible: $4,654.62- Over 127 times what I started with! Total in inventory as of 6/6/25: $1903.45 Needed to invest to be fully invested; $1090.57, this number is getting large versus the average price of what I am investing in. I will either need to go full bore into reinvesting into large priced items or I will start buying more stocks. Total Profit Overall: $4,618.24 excluding gains and losses on stocks Amount in Stocks bought: $1,660.60 Current Value of Stocks: $1836.41, $175.81 in profit were I to sell right now. This total stock value is almost as much as my total possible inventory at the end of year two. Yearly dividend amount: $150.07, 4.12 times my starting amount Current Number of Items in Inventory: 429 Average Profit on Items Sold: $14.03, this is going to trend down over time if I keep selling clothing Approximate Number of Hours Needed: 90 Approximate Hourly rate: $51.33 per hour Where to Go From Here I am planning on getting to 500 items and letting the inventory stay around that level for a while. I've purchased some larger priced cameras lately which sold in around two months on the longest. These items tend to have a larger profit amount but the margin is not as good as I get on the lower priced items. I'll likely keep doing some of the larger items because of the excess amount I have to be fully invested. Last year, I hoped my inventory would double. I was able to 2.4 times where I was in a year. If I double my total inventory amount possible amount again by year four I will be very happy again. A double from here would be pushing me close to $10,000 since I started, which seems pretty awesome to me to have just taken $36.38 I had lying around and be able to turn it into something significant. I'm still a way off, but as long as I stay consistent I will get there. There is a big milestone of $5,000 coming up soon. I'm only a few hundred dollars away from it as I write this update, because I've sold more since the end of the third year. I'll update my blog again when I hit $5,000. The thing I will be working towards as I get to the 500 inventory level is to start reinvesting the profits every month fully into stocks, and maintain the level of inventory I am at. I'll keep enough flexibility with cash if I come across a great flip I will buy it. I am aiming for an inventory of 500 to be able to have an average profit of $10 per item sold and to sell the inventory through once a year. When I do this then I will work to maintain good stock investments and grow the average dividend amount monthly. This time next year I should be making as much a month in dividends as I started with, $36.38.
